Why Choose Us
Our clients choose us because we provide the skill, experience, and professionalism of large firm litigators but at a much better value.

Our clients and their cases are extremely important to us. We believe in delivering the highest quality work product, being responsive, and managing legal costs. We have over 60 years of combined experience litigating intellectual property and commercial lawsuits and have developed strategies for handling cases both effectively and efficiently.

As a smaller firm, we do not carry the high overhead that large firms must pass on to their clients or the layers of bureaucracy that can hamper a law firm's ability to arrange for creative and flexible fee arrangements.

We do not believe in nickel and diming our clients for miscellaneous in-house add-ons such as copying, faxing and domestic long distance calls. We routinely come in under our predicted litigation budgets.

We keep our clients informed on the developments in their cases as events occur and engage our clients in strategy decisions, because we understand that the case is YOUR case and affects YOUR business. We believe in providing our clients candid and straightforward advice that further their business goals.

If your current outside counsel does not seem to understand that you are ultimately responsible for your case, does not give you confidence that his or her fees are a fair value when compared to the work product produced, or fails to communicate with you regarding the progress of your case or appreciate your sense of urgency or your business goals, give us a call and let us help you regain control over your legal matters.

Our Firm and History
BJC is committed to offering clients more effective and efficient representation in intellectual property and other complex commercial litigation with flexible billing arrangements focused on achieving successful and cost-efficient results.

BJC was formed by Eric Buether, Chris Joe and Brian Carpenter, former Greenberg Traurig shareholders in its Dallas IP litigation section. Mr. Buether formerly served as the head of Greenberg Traurig Dallas' IP litigation group.

Mr. Buether was a founding member of the litigation boutique McKool Smith, P.C., helping start its patent litigation practice and has been honored as a Texas SuperLawyer every year since 2004. Before McKool Smith, he practiced law at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and Johnson & Gibbs.

Mr. Joe was associated with Holtzman Urquhart & Moore in Houston before joining Mr. Buether at McKool Smith in 1996. Messrs. Buether and Joe later teamed up while practicing at the Dallas law firm of Godwin Gruber to win a $41 million judgment for Halliburton in the first patent case tried by Judge Leonard Davis in the Eastern District of Texas.

Since then, Mr. Joe has represented a variety of national and international clients in patent, intellectual property and other business litigation and in licensing matters and has been honored as a Rising Star by Texas SuperLawyers.

Mr. Carpenter began his career in Dallas in 1991 and since then has litigated patent infringement cases throughout the country including California and Colorado where he is also licensed. Since 2005, Mr. Carpenter has teamed with Messrs. Buether and Joe on patent infringement cases in the Eastern District of Texas.

Mr. Carpenter is a registered patent attorney and has experience handling patent litigation and licensing programs involving a broad range of technologies including: numerous parallel and serial databus protocols and related chips, network architectures, satellite TV receivers, business methods for e-commerce, electrostatic air purifiers, gas turbines, active vibration isolators, and medical imaging.
